Copy Ratios & Position Sizing

Control how position sizes are calculated for followers.

What is a Copy Ratio?

The copy ratio is a multiplier that determines the follower's position size relative to the master's position:

Follower Volume = Master Volume × Copy Ratio

Ratio Examples

Master TradeCopy RatioFollower Trade
10 BTC1.0x10 BTC (exact copy)
10 BTC0.5x5 BTC (half size)
10 BTC2.0x20 BTC (double size)
10 BTC0.1x1 BTC (10% of master)
10 BTC5.0x50 BTC (5x master)

Group vs Follower Ratio

Copy ratios can be set at two levels:

Group Level Ratio

  • Set during group creation (Step 5)
  • Applies to all followers by default
  • Range: 0.1x to 5.0x
  • Default: 1.0x

Per-Follower Override

  • Set individually for specific followers
  • Overrides the group ratio for that follower only
  • Useful when followers have different account sizes
Balancing Account Sizes

If your master has $10,000 and a follower has $5,000, use a 0.5x ratio for that follower to maintain similar risk exposure.

Maximum Position Size

In addition to the ratio, you can set a maximum position size limit:

  • Caps the position regardless of the calculated ratio
  • Protects against unexpectedly large trades
  • Can be set at group level or per-follower

Example with Max Size

MasterRatioMax SizeResult
10 BTC2.0xNone20 BTC
10 BTC2.0x15 BTC15 BTC (capped)
5 BTC2.0x15 BTC10 BTC (under cap)

Calculation Order

When both ratio and max size are configured:

  1. 1. Calculate base: Master volume × ratio
  2. 2. Check follower override: Use follower ratio if set
  3. 3. Apply max size: Cap at max if exceeded
  4. 4. Round: Round to exchange-acceptable precision

Choosing the Right Ratio

Equal Account Sizes

If all accounts have similar balances:

  • Use 1.0x for identical position sizes
  • Simple and predictable

Different Account Sizes

If accounts have varying balances:

  • Calculate ratio based on account size difference
  • Example: Follower has 50% of master's balance → 0.5x ratio
  • Maintains similar risk exposure across accounts

Scaling Up

To deploy more capital than the master:

  • Use ratios greater than 1.0x
  • Be aware of increased risk
  • Ensure followers have sufficient margin
Margin Requirements

Higher ratios require more margin. If a follower doesn't have enough margin for the calculated position size, the trade will fail.
